Annie Duke joins Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic Weekend

Top woman poker player to lend her talents to empowering women’s celebrity weekend benefiting GoGirlGo!

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 10, 2007) – The third annual Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic - the only Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament to feature an all-female field of celebrities - will take place May 18 to 20 at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, CA. The Classic raises funds for the Women’s Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! Initiative. Female celebrities from the worlds of movies, television, music and sports participate.

The three-day weekend event features golf rounds and clinics, receptions, dinners, and use of the resort’s spa for all participants. And, for the first time, the Classic will also feature a Texas Hold ‘Em Tutorial and Mini-Tournament hosted and conducted by female poker legend Annie Duke.

Over the past decade Annie Duke has established herself as one of the top professional poker players in the world. In 2004, Duke knocked out 8 of the worlds' greatest poker legends and won $2 million in the No-Limit Texas Hold'em winner-take-all, invitation-only WSOP Tournament of Champions, established by ESPN and Harrah's Entertainment. She now serves as a consultant for the online poker site UltimateBet.com; is sought after for her vast poker skills and knowledge, coaching the likes of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon on their poker games; and her autobiography, Annie Duke: How I raised, folded, bluffed, flirted, cursed and won millions at the World Series of Poker, hit shelves in late 2005.

According to Duke, “Poker is a level playing field where women can compete on an equal footing to men. I hope that through my success in poker I can set an example for women everywhere the they can compete on an equal footing as men, that women can succeed in competition in what is traditionally a man's world. I am very pleased to be participating in the Ladies First weekend because I believe its mission, and the cause it supports, align with this message.”

Former US Women’s National Soccer Team player Brandi Chastain, who will be participating in her third Classic, stated, “Annie Duke’s participation in this weekend is an incredible addition. Top women celebrities from all areas come together to raise money for young girls; of course the best female poker player in the world should be there!.” She added, “And, I am looking for some tips to bring back to my regular poker game!”

The Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic is supported by corporate partners, such as American Laser Centers, Golf for Women Magazine, Chuao Chocolatier, Michelob Ultra, Mirassou Winery, Powerbar Pria, Starbucks, and Tour Vision Eyewear.
