Lisa Fernandez Defends her Ladies First TitleSoftball Super Star Part of Winning Foursome for Second Year in a Row
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 24, 2006) – The second annual Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic, the only Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament to feature an all-female field of celebrities, took place April 21 to 23, 2006 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego. The event was hosted by members of the 2004 Gold Medal-winning US Women’s Soccer Team and raised funds for the Women’s Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! Initiative. Female celebrities from the worlds of movies, television, music and sports participated.
An excited weekend of golf was capped by a repeat performance from three-time Olympic softball gold medalist Lisa Fernandez, as she led her celebrity foursome to victory. Actresses Leann Hunley and Marita DeLeon, along with Olympic ice hockey medalist Jamie Hagerman, rounded out the first-place foursome which received their engraved Tiffany & Co. Awards and TaylorMade Hybrid Rescue Clubs from Academy Award-winning actress Geena Davis.

The celebrity runner-up foursome included two members of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, Christie Rampone and Shannon MacMillan, along with actresses Molly Culver and Laura Johnson. Each member of the foursome earned a TaylorMade putter for her efforts.
There were many other winners throughout the weekend, including the following on course contest winners: Mirassou Closest to the Pin, winner of a Mirassou Golf Picnic Backpack and three bottles of Mirassou Wine, was amateur Paula Jacques; American Laser Centers Closest to the Pin, winner of a complimentary treatment up to a $1500 value, was amateur Michael Lujan; Rancho Bernardo Inn Longest Drive, winner of a certificate for a complimentary round of golf for four at host location Rancho Bernardo Inn, was amateur Danielle Frasier; and TaylorMade-adidas Straightest Drive, winner of a TaylorMade Ladies R5 Driver with a custom Paula Creamer Pink Aldila shaft, was actress Laura Johnson.
The top two foursomes from Saturday’s Celeb-Am also won prizes: top prize to celebrities Carla Overbeck (former US Women’s National Soccer Team Captain) and actress Marisa Ramirez, along with amateurs Michael Lujan and Judie Wolf; and runner up prize to celebrities Shannon MacMillan (US Women’s Soccer Team) and actress Laura Johnson, along with amateurs Annette Nicolson and Colin Smith.
And the top two foursomes from Sunday’s Amateur round also won prizes. Top prize to: Judie Wolf, Edward Ferguson, Michael Lujan, and Tuti Scott; and runners up: Chris Sabonis, Nathan Lavezoll, Madeline Javalet and Danielle Frasier.
Highlights of the 2006 Classic included a short game skills clinic conducted by former LPGA Tour Pros Pearl Sinn-Bonanni and Vicki Fergon; a Mirassou Welcome / “Pairings” Dinner hosted by Brandi Chastain and Julie Foudy and featuring a speech by Women’s Sports Foundation CEO Donna Lopiano; an afternoon of spa treatments provided courtesy of American Laser Centers; a “Fiscal Fitness for Women” Presentation from corporate partner Wells Fargo Private Client Services; and a Saturday evening Celebration Dinner featuring a Live and Silent Auction, hosted by MADtv stars Crista Flanagan and Daniele Giather. Saturday evening also featured a musical performance by all-female rock band Antigone Rising who “rocked the house” and were joined on stage during their set by Grammy-winning country music star Shelby Lynne.
