Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic Announces Next Event Dates and LocationAfter successful first year event, bigger and better plans for the future
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 14, 2005) – The inaugural Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic, the only Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament to feature an all-female field of celebrities, took place December 10, 11, and 12, 2004 in Carlsbad, CA. The event was hosted by members of the 2004 Gold Medal-winning US Women’s Soccer Team and raised funds for the Women’s Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! Initiative. Female celebrities from the worlds of movies, television, music and sports participated. Guests of the soccer team players ranged from Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis to 3-time Olympic softball Gold Medalist Lisa Fernandez to reality tv star Meredith Phillips.
According to Julie Foudy, former Captain of the US Women’s Soccer Team: “The first year of Ladies First was a great success but coming off the event we knew that there were many ways we could make the next one even better!” The first year event drew a full field of 36 celebrities and 36 amateurs and generated a five-figure donation to GoGirlGo! Event organizers were able to secure 13 corporate sponsors, ranging from Alice White Wines to Tiffany & Co., each of which maintains a “right of first refusal” on the next installment. But plans for the second “annual” event include much more.
According to Event Director, Jennifer Rottenberg, “Going in to year two we identified four key areas of improvement: move the event date back from the crowded month of December to the more open month of April; move the event to a location we felt could become our permanent home; insure a high level of celebrity attendance to support the event; and increase the media exposure around the event.” She continued: “We are confident that the changes we have made will strengthen the event for the future and enable us to increase our contribution to GoGirlGo! to meet our six-figure goal.”
To address objectives one and two, the next Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic will be held April 21 – 23, 2006 at the elegant Rancho Bernardo Inn in Rancho Bernardo, CA. In weather-perfect North San Diego County, Rancho Bernardo Inn offers a complete resort getaway featuring luxurious accommodations, world-class recreation (a championship resort golf course, the Buena Vista spa, pools, and a tennis facility), exceptional dining, and AAA Four-Diamond service. The Inn's Old World elegance is complemented by the warmth of genuine hospitality. To learn more, please visit www.ranchobernardoinn.com.
“We are very excited to host the next Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic. This is truly a first class event and one which we hope will take place at Rancho Bernardo Inn for years to come,” said Tracee Cahill, Director of Marketing for JC Resorts, parent company of the Rancho Bernardo Inn.
In order to insure the high caliber of celebrity participation the event necessitates, long time celebrity booking agency, The Celebrity Source, has been retained to assist with the effort. Founded in 1988, The Celebrity Source has been recruiting and securing A-list celebrities for events for nearly two decades. For more information, please visit www.celebritysource.com.
Celebrity Source President, Rita Tateel, stated "After all these many years of coordinating celebrities for primarily male dominated tournaments, I am so thrilled to be working with a history-making event where the ladies finally rule. Name any woman celebrity who plays golf, and if their schedule permits, I guarantee they'll be at this event."
Increasing the level of media exposure around the event serves several purposes: increasing exposure for GoGirlGo!, increasing awareness of the event, and increasing exposure for the event’s sponsors. In order to accomplish this, event organizers have partnered with Raycom Sports (www.raycomsports.com), a leading sports marketing and production firm, to produce and distribute through national broadcast channels, a one-hour, made for tv highlight special. Additionally, a fully-integrated public relations and direct marketing campaign will support.
“Ladies First will make for great television, and we are truly excited to help bring this charitable cause to a national audience in 2006,” noted Colin Smith, Raycom’s VP of Distribution. “This is right up our alley, for Raycom Sports has been a continuous supporter of women’s collegiate and professional athletics throughout our tenure in the sports marketplace.”
The first year of the Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic was supported by the following blue-chip brands/companies: Alice White Wines, Bud Light, Callaway Golf, Calyx & Corolla, Drambuie Liqueur, Goody Products, Jones Soda, Limelight Solutions, Michelob Ultra, Starbucks, Tiffany & Co., 24 Hour Fitness and United Airlines.
