Softball Players Lead Winning Team

Inaugural Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic Winners include Fernandez and Nuveman

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 13, 2004) - The inaugural Ladies First Celebrity Golf Classic took place this past weekend at teh La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. As the first and only celebrity charity golf tournament to feature a full-field of female celebrities, the contestants including women from entertainment and sports. The event was hosted by members of the Gold Medal-winning US Women’s Soccer Team to raise funds for the Women’s Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! Initiative. The winning foursome included: Lisa Fernandez (three-time softball Olympic Gold Medalist); Jennifer Mills (host of the Golf Channel's "Golf Central"); Carla Overbeck (former Captain of the US Women's Soccer Team); and Stacey Nuveman (two-time softball Olympic Gold Medalist). The winners shot a four-under-par 68 in the scramble format event. Each member of the winning foursome received a Callaway Golf "Shopping Spree," a gorgeous hammered glass ice bucket from Tiffany & Co., and a nominal donation to their personal "charities of choice."

Close on their heels, the runners-up shot a two-under-par 70. The runner up foursome included: Brandi Chastain (US Women's Soccer Team star); Janet Jones Gretzky (former actress and wife of The Great One); Ann Meyers Drysdale (former women's basketball superstar and current women's basketball television analyst); and Meghan Nicol (model). Each member of the runner up foursome received a Callaway Golf "Shopping Spree," and a nominal donation to their personal "charities of choice."

A great time was had by all event attendees as festivities included: an invaluable skills clinic provided by Callaway Golf and presented by LPGA Pros Emilee Klein and Kelli Kuehne; a Pairings Dinner hosted by Brandi Chastain and Julie Foudy and preceeded by the Alice White Welcome Reception; a Celebration dinner hosted by Geena Davis and preceeded by the Goody Reception featuring Drambuie Vanilla Spice; Starbucks Breakfasts; two days of golf, including the Celeb-Am featuring help from Callway Golf professionals Klein and Kuehne and World Long Drive Champ Stacey Shinnick; use of the terrific spa facilities at La Costa; and the Tiffany & Co. Awards Reception.
